Antioxidants and MRI-Defined Vascular Depression

Funded by: NARSAD - The Mental Health Research Association

This nutrition, depression and neuroimaging research project is examining whether dietary antioxidants are related to late-life depression and the occurrence of brain lesions. The study is being conducted as part of a longitudinal study of elderly individuals, which involves people with and without depression. All participants receive psychiatric and nutrition assessments, undergo an MRI scan, and answer questions about their physical health.

If antioxidants are found to be beneficial for depression and brain lesions, future studies may lead to prevention of these conditions through changes in diet.
